What Would You Do If You Were Free?
What would you do if you didn't owe anyone anything?
What if the credit-card payment was gone? The car payment? The student loan?
What could you do? What could you give? What could you say yes to?
Financial freedom isn't just about having more money. It's about having the freedom to live differently.
Different numbers. Same pressure.
No matter where we are financially, we can find ourselves carrying the same anxiety:
“I know what I need, and it's up to me to make sure I get it.”
We don't have money problems; we have spiritual issues related to money.
Who am I trusting to supply what I need?
“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.”Psalm 23:1
The confidence of Psalm 23 isn't that David has everything. It's that David has a Shepherd.
David experienced green pastures and dark valleys. His confidence wasn't in his circumstances, but in the One leading him.
“I know how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance.”Philippians 4:12
“My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”Philippians 4:19
David says, “I lack nothing.” Paul says, “My God will supply what I need.” Both are saying the same thing: I trust the Shepherd.
If I don't trust the Shepherd, eventually I start shepherding myself.
Trust becomes real in the decisions we make. Do I trust God enough to wait? To live within limits? To follow His ways instead of my own?
Normal doesn't mean wise.
We've normalized spending money we don't have, upgrading because everyone else is upgrading, and making purchases based on what we can finance rather than what we can afford.
“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.”Proverbs 14:12
Just because something feels right doesn't mean it's wise.
“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.”Proverbs 22:7
Debt promises freedom today by taking freedom from tomorrow.
God's desire isn't that we simply have more stuff. He wants us to experience more freedom, more margin, more peace, and more opportunity to be generous.
Your balance may not change today. But your direction can.
Financial freedom begins when we decide we're going to live differently.
Freedom doesn't start when the balance hits zero. It starts when the direction changes.
A new direction starts with practical, faithful decisions:
Once you've decided where you're going, you stop being embarrassed by the decisions required to get there.
When we honor God with what we have, we can trust Him with what comes next.
You don't have to do this alone.

I don't have to chase the blessings of God. I just have to follow the Shepherd.
What would change if I truly trusted the Shepherd?
Jesus, You are my Shepherd. Teach me to trust You with every part of my life, including my finances. Give me wisdom to follow Your ways, courage to make faithful decisions, and freedom to live generously. Amen.
