  • At Heartland, we desire to support kids and adults of all abilities so they can walk with Jesus and take their next step in faith. Our Adaptive Program provides a range of supports for individuals with disabilities, helping make Heartland a place where everyone can belong, grow in their faith, and build meaningful relationships.

    Adaptive Program (AP) Classroom

    Our Adaptive Classroom is designed for kids and teens who benefit from smaller class sizes, visual and sensory supports, frequent breaks, and a more structured curriculum. This environment creates a safe and loving space for students with significant disabilities to engage with peers and discover that they are wonderfully created and deeply loved by God.

    Buddy Program

    The Buddy Program to designed to pair individuals with disabilities or sensory/behavioral challenges with a trained Dream Team member, allowing them to participate successfully in their age-appropriate classroom with personalized support. To ensure the best experience, Buddy support is available for individuals who attend regularly and is provided when we are able to match each person with a trained volunteer. If you are interested in Buddy support, please let us know when you register so our team can connect with you about current availability.

    Sensory-Friendly Young Adult Service

    A welcoming community for young adults with disabilities to experience Sunday worship together. Located in our Sensory Room in HK, participants join a live stream of the main service alongside peers and leaders in a calm, sensory-friendly environment.

  • A: Absolutely! We value the next generation and have engaging and age-appropriate programs for children and teenagers. Our trained and caring volunteers are dedicated to creating a safe and enjoyable environment where kids can learn about God and have fun.

  • One of the best ways to get connected the Connection Experience, happening every Sunday after every service in the Large Meeting Room (just outside the North entrance—follow the signs!).

    Come enjoy some food, meet a few people, and hear more about Heartland, and learn more about the next steps on your spiritual journey, Lunch is provided—you just need to show up!

  • A: As our guest, there is no expectation for you to give. We believe that giving is an act of worship for those who call Heartland Church their home, but please feel free to simply enjoy the service and get to know us better.

  • A: Our services typically last around one hour, but we believe in creating an environment where you can encounter God at your own pace. So, feel free to stay for our Connection Experience, engage in conversations, small groups, or spend some quiet time reflecting on our prayer path.

Our Story

Heartland Church is a multiethnic, multidenominational, and multigenerational church.

Our church has always been about meeting people where right where they are. Heartland began very simply in 2001, in a living room with friends and neighbors, some of whom had not been in church for a long time or had never been.

For over 25 years, we’ve had one purpose: To love people well, lead people to Jesus, and launch people out to change the world.

God loves everyone, and anyone can experience the transformative power of His love and grace. We are a diverse community in every way, and our differences are valuable resources that help us see and hear God better. This, too, began very simply...relationally...one person at a time. We have come from different backgrounds and cultures, with different values and worldviews, but we are united by Christ's sacrificial love and His beautiful Spirit of humility.

For Your Family

Our Church Leadership 

  • We are guided by Pastors.

    The Pastor’s Lead Team is, led by Pastor Darryn Scheske. This team oversees the day-to-day ministry and operations of the church. These staff pastors serve the congregation and are responsible for the development of the spiritual life of the church.

  • We are protected by Overseers.

    The overseers are non-staff members of the congregation who oversee the finances and direct the provision of the facilities needed by the church. They provide counsel to the Senior Pastor regarding the major financial commitments of the church.

  • We are strengthened by Covering Pastors.

    The covering pastors are ordained pastors of nationally-respected congregations and ministries who love Heartland Church and are willing to provide spiritual protection to the church. They may be called in to help in accountability matters related to the Senior Pastor if requested by the Overseers.

Pastors Darryn & Loree Scheske
Pastor Darryn Scheske is the founding Senior Pastor of Heartland Church, a multiethnic, multigenerational, multi-denominational church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Darryn is a third-generation pastor who inherited his love for people in the islands of the Caribbean where he was raised. Heartland Church, which began in the Scheske's living room in 2001 with 17 people, has grown to more than 6,000 people. Please stop by and say hello in the lobby after every service. They would love to meet you personally.

Our Statement of Faith 

  • The Bible is the Word of God. It was written by human authors under the supernatural inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian faith and conduct. Because it is inspired by God, it is the Truth without any mixture or error.

  • God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

  • Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus was virgin-born, lived a sinless human life, demonstrated His authority through many miracles, and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to His Father in heaven, and is coming again. He will return someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

  • People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

  • God created people as male and female, to reflect and bear his image and be like Him in character. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us from birth are under a curse and are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” Because of sin, God’s image in all people has become distorted and all people are in a state of spiritual separation from God. The ultimate result of sin is death.

  • Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn away from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ by faith. Salvation is secured by Christ alone and the true believer is secure in that salvation. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian.

  • The Holy Spirit is God, co-equal with the Father and the Son of God, Jesus Christ. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer enabling them to live the abundant life and display the character of Christ.

    The baptism in the Holy Spirit, releases the fullness of the Spirit and is evidenced by the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit, which empower the believer to serve, to minister, and to witness. As Christians exercise their spiritual gifts, the Church is built up and those who are searching find eternal life in Christ. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.

  • Baptism
    Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the God Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All who repent and believe on Christ as Savior and Lord are to be baptized as a public declaration of faith, symbolizing Christ’s death, burial and resurrection.     Marriage
    Christian marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God for the well-being of mankind and the propagation of the human race. According to scripture, it is a covenant representing the spiritual and physical union into which a man and a woman may enter that embodies and represents the very union that is between Christ and His Church.     Communion
    Communion, or the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Christ to remember his death, the sacrifice of his body and blood, and to proclaim His resurrection and promise to return.

  • The purpose of the Church on earth is to fulfill, “The Great Commandment” and “The Great Commission,” and to be the functioning Body of Christ on earth, locally, nationally and internationally. Christians can only live the Christian life as God intended when we commit to relationships with other Christians in a local church. Local churches can best promote the cause of Jesus Christ by cooperating in unity with one another in voluntary association with other churches that share a similar mission, set of values, and convictions.

  • Acceptance of Identity—Approach people as neither inferior nor superior to you; give others the freedom to express their authentic selves without fear of being negatively judged; interact without prejudice or bias, accepting how race, religion, ethnicity, gender, class, sexual orientation, age, disability, etc. are at the core of their identities. Assume they have integrity.

    Inclusion—Make others feel that they belong at all levels of relationship (family, community, organization, nation)

    Safety—Put people at ease at two levels: physically, where they feel free of bodily harm, and psychologically, where they feel free of concern about being shamed or humiliated, that they feel free to speak without fear of retribution

    Acknowledgment—Give people your full attention by listening, hearing, validating, and responding to their concerns and what they have been through

    Recognition—Validate others for their talents, hard work, thoughtfulness, and help; be generous with praise; show thanks and gratitude toward others for their contributions, ideas, and experience

    Fairness—Treat people justly, with equality, and in an evenhanded way, according to agreed-upon laws and rules Benefit of the Doubt—Treat people as trustworthy; start with the premise that others have good motives and are acting with integrity

    Understanding—Believe that what others think matters; give them a chance to explain their perspectives, and express their points of view; actively listen in order to understand them

    Independence—Encourage people to act on their own behalf so that they feel in control of their lives and experience a sense of hope and possibility. Use your power to empower rather than to disempower others.

    Accountability—Take responsibility for your actions; if you have violated the dignity of another, apologize; make a commitment to change hurtful behaviors
