The Script is a new message series for the summer taken from the Book of 1 Peter, one of the shorter, lesser known books of the New Testament. It’s a little odd to me that more people haven’t read this powerful little letter, written by none other than Peter, the most popular and most prominent of Jesus’s original band of disciples. Bold, brash, impetuous, impulsive Peter; quick to speak, strongly opinionated, well-meaning, and fiercely loyal…and altogether human. All of us can relate to what it feels like to let down our own standards and fail under fire.

Peter’s first letter was written to those who were going through suffering and difficulty. He wrote to people who were criticized by their culture and persecuted for their faith. He wrote powerful, encouraging words to women who felt marginalized, to employees with unfair bosses and to those living under biased and ungodly government.

If you have anxiety about what is happening to our world in the face of social pressures and possibilities of terror…this is an excellent book to study because it was written to Christians under similar circumstances.
